Celebrating Everyday Heroes: Lisa Brown of Bob Dog Groomers

Today, we feature Lisa Brown, owner of Bob Dog Groomers, a small but mighty dog grooming business in Leith, Edinburgh. Lisa’s journey is one of perseverance, passion, and service, one that illustrates how personal challenge can lead to unexpected and fulfilling opportunities.
From Redundancy to a New Calling
Lisa’s path began in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic when she was made redundant from her job as a chef. With the difficulty of seeking new employment, especially with age discrimination, she knew that she had to create her path. But where would that lead her?
The answer was a childhood love of dogs. “I’ve always had pets,” Lisa says. “Honestly, I think I like dogs better than I like people. They’re so loving and innocent.”
After losing her mother in December 2019, Lisa took a leap of faith and embarked on a dog grooming course, one that began her new life.
She did briefly work for a grooming salon before realising she wished to do some things a little differently. That is how Bob Dog Groomers came about.
A Safe Haven for Anxious Dogs
Unlike traditional grooming salons, Lisa offers a one-on-one experience. This means that when a dog comes in for a session, they are the only pet in the shop.
“I get a lot of referrals from vets because I take dogs that are nervous or anxious,” Lisa explains. “The peaceful environment makes them feel safe, and I work at their own pace with them. It’s all about trust.”
From Cockapoos with curly coats that need regular trims to Jack Russells and Pugs that need de-shedding, Lisa works based on each dog’s specific requirements. Her gentle and patient grooming nature has made Bob Dog Groomers a trusted choice for pet owners throughout Leith.
More Than Just a Business
 For Lisa, running Bob Dog Groomers isn’t just about making a living; it’s about making a difference.
