Devotional : What Is Your Most Prized Possession? by Bosede Santos

And today the Lord has said that you are his very own people [treasured/special possession] as He has promised you. But you must obey His commands. He will ·make you greater [set you higher] than all the other nations He made. He will give you praise, fame, and honor, and you will be a holy people to the Lord your God, as He has said. Deut. 26:18,19EXB
Personally, not one to be attached to possessions, hot tears burned my eyes when a 10-place setting set of Wedgewood dinnerware, went missing during a relocation my family made to Canada. This once-in-a-lifetime, purchase I had longed for and saved up to buy; with 24kt gold rim. The full works. The type, in my fantasy, I was saving to host the “in-laws” whenever any of my sons brought home their intended spouse. The type you kept away so securely you wouldn’t recognise it if even you saw it! So was this prized possession of mine, which vanished without a trace.
My tears were not because the set went missing, they were more to mourn the pleasure whoever’s sticky fingers made away with them, in transit, had denied me of ever realising my dream for buying them in the first place. I had placed high premium on the set but never had the joy of hosting with them one day!
We read in Deuteronomy, how God chose the Israelites, just because!
The Amplified Bible says of John 3:16 that God “greatly loved and highly prized” the world so much He gave His only begotten Son to die on behalf of the world. He did not spare any expense to secure yours and my hereafter. If we put our trust in Jesus, we inherited eternal life, which is access to all of God.
Exalted Position
Like my Wedgewood dinner set, God has set you and me in a place of honour, to demonstrate His nature and goodness on the earth. He wants the world to experience Him through us. So, He has poured Himself into us by His Spirit whom He gave us to live inside us and empower us from inside out to accomplish the impossible. You are that precious to Him. All He requires of us to accomplish His purpose is to believe and obey His words to us.
Friend, what is your most prized possession? Job declared his innocence by affirming that he had placed such great value on the word of God, even more than his needed food.
YOUR RESPONSE
- Evaluate what you have placed the most value on in life.
- Encourage yourself with Psalms extolling the love of God for you.
Prayer:
Father, like Job, Your word means the world to me.I want to always be led by every word, which comes out of Your mouth. Help me Holy Spirit to be like Jesus, doing only that which I see the Father doing. Paying attention to His words to instruct me for life. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
