Faith and Finance: Building Strong Financial Structures for Churches, Charities, and Small Organisations

Written by on 26th August 2025

Have you ever seen a church, charity, or small organisation struggle financially, not because of a lack of faith, but because of a lack of structure?

This may not be the most glamorous topic, but it’s one of the most important. At HeartSong Live, we understand this journey well.

Every month, invoices and urgent reminders arrive, and often it’s only by God’s grace that we make it through.

Faith is vital. But faith without structure can hold any organisation back.

The way we handle money goes beyond numbers and accounting, as it reflects our stewardship, values, integrity, and ultimately, our trust in God.

Meet Bim Ewetade: Merging Faith, Numbers, and Integrity

Our guest, Bim Ewetade, is the founder of AE Account Tax Limited.

She supports churches, charities, and small-to-medium enterprises with compliance, ethical tax advice, financial reporting, and trustee training.

Influenced by her father, an accountant, and gifted with a natural talent for numbers, Bimbo combines technical expertise with unwavering values. Her philosophy is simple but profound: numbers and integrity are inseparable.

She’s been in the rooms where policies are shaped, books are audited, and futures are redirected all while walking in grace, faith, and service.

The True Cost of Poor Financial Structure

Bim warns that poor money management sets a dangerous precedent. Using the biblical example of Jesus feeding the multitudes, she reminds us that stewardship requires planning, transparency, and accurate record-keeping otherwise, you fall into the trap of “Garbage In, Garbage Out.”

Too often, leaders assume the treasurer handles everything. This mindset can weaken governance and even create suspicion, especially when assets are kept in personal names instead of the organisation’s.

Without proper authorisation processes, financial decisions become risky. Upholding integrity may not always be popular, but it’s essential to protect both resources and reputation.

Building Skills and Structures That Last

Bim’s advice for sustainable growth is clear and practical:

Engage professionals early: Don’t wait for a financial crisis before seeking help.
Leverage bookkeeping software: Link it to your bank account to improve efficiency and reduce cash handling.
Select trustees wisely: Choose people with skills in finance, marketing, or law or at least a willingness to learn.
Write down the vision: Clarity guides action and decision-making.
Use free resources: The Charity Commission provides excellent guides and training.

Her message to leaders is firm:

“This is not just about supporting a friend’s vision. It’s about being accountable for the organisation’s success.”

Why Financial Stewardship Is a Spiritual Responsibility

For Bim, accountability is more than a legal duty, it’s a spiritual calling. “Whether in business, charity, or church, we represent the Lord when we handle funds with integrity.”

Financial stewardship safeguards credibility, impact, and legacy. For leaders starting or growing a charity or faith-based organisation, now is the time to build the right systems, skills, and safeguards.
