Grammy Award-Winning Christian Artist, Rebecca St James Returns After 7-Year Hiatus
Written by Heartsong Live on 19th June 2020
Rebecca St James is a household name- at least to anyone who grew up listening to Christian music, especially in the 90s
Now after years away from the scene, she is back with a new single, a new podcast and a new album set to be released in July 2020. She attributes this to God radically calling her back to music and ministry
She said that call was what led to the upending of her life in California and move back to Nashville with her family
In a recent interview with Christian Post, she spoke about unofficially retiring from music a year before the birth of her first daughter (She and husband Jacob ‘Cubbie’ Fink have 2 daughters aged 6 and 2 and St James is currently 28 weeks pregnant) and loving her life as a wife and mom
“I had very happily laid that down seven years ago and thought that I may never sing again,” she said
The Australian-born songstress has been working on her latest album for the last year and a half and just recently released a new single titled “Battle Is The Lord’s”
“I just think that that’s something that is timely and that people need to hear right now. And we couldn’t have known that when we were writing it last year,” she said
The new album has been described as “fresh, modern worship music” and St James confirms that the goal for the album is really to equip the church with songs that are ‘fresh, anointed and Holy Spirit-Led’
Also shedding more light on her new podcast, “Rebecca St James Friends And Family” she says: “There’s just a lot of feelings of isolation with what we’re working through in this year with coronavirus and just all the confusion and the turmoil in our world and in our nation right now.”
A lot of people are feeling scared and alone and isolated and are looking for truth. They’re looking for encouragement. They’re looking for this sense of not being alone, and not being alone in their pain or fear and just looking for something that feels really authentic and kind of like a hug”
St. James is the sister of Joel and Luke Smallbone of the popular Christian pop band For King and Country. She is also an accomplished author and actress.
She is an outspoken advocate for sexual abstinence and anti-abortion and a spokesperson for Compassion International
