A Scottish church that featured in the popular TV drama Outlander has closed.
Old High Church in Inverness was formally closed as a place of worship following a special service yesterday.
The Church of Scotland property on the banks of the River Ness is to be sold, as it was not financially viable to maintain it along with St Stephen’s in Crown.
Inverness Presbytery clerk, Rev Trevor Hunt, said: “It is always painful to close a church building but the kirk session of the charge decided that they would go in this direction and took the matter to the congregation who voted.
“A clear majority were in favour of closing the church, the decision was brought to the presbytery which approved the closure and the general trustees raised no objection.”
Amazon Prime drama Outlander, based on the books of author Diana Gabaldon, follows the adventures of a World War Two nurse Claire, who travels back in time to 18th Century Scotland.
The church has become popular with fans of the series, due to its history and connection to the Battle of Culloden in 1746.
