INDIGENOUS ARTIST, SOLANGE LEGAL, TO RELEASE FIRST EP, ‘THE ANSWER’

Solange Legal is an Indigenous, contemporary Christian music artist who, after a busy year in 2024, recording in Nashville and releasing singles, is now releasing her first EP; which includes previously released favourites as well as a new song, which the EP is named after, “The Answer.”
When speaking to the artist she said, “This EP and even the order that the songs released in tells a story. Each has its own colour/feel, like chapters in a book. The titles even hint at it when strung together: I surrender, into the light. You are, the answer.”
Solange grew up surrounded by music, first singing on stage at the age of three, and later studying jazz/contemporary vocal performance at Vancouver Community College. She is married, has five children, and for many years focused on her family and teaching. It wasn’t until she met her now vocal coach and producer, Marty Lamain, that her own writing became a focal point in her career. As an accomplished musician, writer, and teacher with music playing all over the world, it was Lamain who offered to produce Solange’s original work and arranged the studio and musicians in Nashville, where all the songs on this EP, “The Answer,” were recorded.
The band backing Solange in the studio recordings is comprised of: Nashville-veteran Garth Justice on drums (Reba, The Getty’s, Mandisa, Casting Crowns, Ricky Skaggs, etc), Emmy-winning producer Jon Newell on keys, Jacob Lowery on bass (Reba, Michael McDonald, Michael W Smith, Amy Grant, etc) and Grammy and Dove award winning Jonathan Crone on guitar.
When thinking about her songwriting and EP, “The Answer,” the songwriter shared, “All my music overflows from my prayer life and relationship with God. It is a sharing of my personal and ancestral spirituality.”
While family and music keeps her quite busy, Solange, who is Métis (French, Cree, and Ojibwe,) also works for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver on Indigenous Reconciliation where she focuses on building relationships with Christians and non-Christians, Indigenous and non-indigenous; and then building bridges between them.
Upon reflection Solange said, ”I am incredibly grateful, in all my work, for all the support and wonderful people who walk alongside me. They make my heart smile. They are a gift.”
