Looking Back at 2025 With a Grateful Heart

Written by on 3rd December 2025

Here we are December again. Somehow 2025 felt like a whole lifetime packed into twelve months. There were moments that lifted us, stretched us, surprised us, and maybe even broke us a little. Some days we were thriving; other days we were just trying to hold everything together.

But now that we’re at the year’s doorstep, one thing keeps rising to the surface: gratitude.

Not the shallow, “smile-through-it” kind.
Not the “pretend everything is fine” kind.

I’m talking about the real, grounding, life-giving kind of gratitude—the kind that helps us make sense of our journey.

Why Gratitude Still Matters (Especially After a Year Like This)

Gratitude doesn’t require a perfect year. If it did, none of us would have anything to be thankful for. Gratitude is a perspective shift—a holy reminder that even when life feels uncertain, God’s presence hasn’t moved an inch.

The Bible doesn’t tell us to be grateful because everything is perfect; it tells us to be grateful because God is constant.

“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” — Psalm 107:1

There’s something comforting about “forever.
Our plans? Fragile.
Our timelines? Flexible.
Our hearts? Often all over the place.

But God’s love is steady. Gratitude helps us breathe that truth in again after a loud, chaotic year.

Gratitude Doesn’t Ignore Hard Times—It Strengthens Us Through Them

Paul wasn’t asking us to be grateful for everything, but to find gratitude in everything:

“Give thanks in all circumstances…” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

That means even in the confusing seasons.
Even in the quiet battles no one saw.
Even in the victories that came later than we hoped.

Gratitude becomes a whisper of faith: God, I trust You even here.

Gratitude Makes Space for Peace

“By prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God…” — Philippians 4:6–7

There’s something powerful about pairing requests with gratitude. It turns our praying into surrender. It reminds our hearts that God has carried us before—and because of that, we can trust Him with what’s still ahead.

Gratitude doesn’t erase anxiety, but it loosens its grip.

Gratitude Helps Us See the Good We Missed Along the Way

Looking back, you may notice blessings that didn’t feel like blessings at the time:

Strength you didn’t know you had

Friendships that grew roots

Prayers answered quietly

Small joys that kept you going

Lessons that shaped you

Gratitude turns hindsight into healing.

As 2025 Fades Out…

Take a moment just one and honor your journey.

Think of the moments that changed you.
The ones that humbled you.
The ones that surprised you.
The ones where you felt God whisper, “I’m right here.”

Gratitude helps us release what weighed us down and carry forward only what will make us better.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” — Psalm 118:24

Not because the day is easy.
Not because the year was perfect.
But because every day is held by a God who is faithful.

As we close out 2025, may gratitude be the filter that softens our memories, strengthens our hearts, and prepares us for everything God has ahead.
