MPs Receive Hand-written ‘Thank You’ Prayer Letters From Christian Constituents

Written by on 14th May 2020

We’ve all heard the saying that ‘action speaks louder than words’. But what if those same actions (hopefully kind) came together with corresponding words? The sound must be deafening!

In this case, it is a deafening sound of encouragement and support Members of Parliament are feeling as they receive letters of prayer from Christians who want to show their appreciation for all their hard work in uncertain times

The idea was inspired by Christian charity Open Doors, who encouraged supporters to thank and stand with the UK’s 650 MPs by sending them handwritten, drawn and painted prayers.

So far over 80 people have either sent prayers via Open Doors (who campaign for Christian freedom from persecution) or taken a picture of their prayer and posted it on social media.

From pencil drawings to watercolours and felt-tipped pen to caligraphy, kids and adults have contributed.

Christian MP David Linden, SNP representative for Glasgow East, said it was appreciated: “We’re receiving hundreds of emails every day, a lot of them are really heartbreaking.

I’ve got constituents who have lost their jobs, whose loved ones are dying in care homes and they can’t get to see them – if MPs get an email that says ‘we’re praying for you’, that’s hugely encouraging.”

Open Doors supporter, Sue Southgate is one of the many Christians who have sent a handwritten thank you to their MP. “We all need prayer support and our MPs need it more than ever. They have so many challenges and difficult decisions right now,” she said

In a time when our country and the world, in general, is facing so much turmoil, gloom and darkness, this gesture stands out as a ray of sunshine signifying a definite light at the end of the tunnel. There is hope!
