The People’s Hymnal’ DVD by Jordan Smith is Out

Written by on 28th July 2025

Jordan Smith, the powerhouse vocalist who rose to fame as the winner of Season 9 of The Voice, is inviting fans into his most personal musical journey yet. The People’s Hymnal — recorded live at Bill Gaither’s studio in Alexandria, Indiana — is now available on DVD through Gaither Music.

The People’s Hymnal DVD brings to life the heart of Smith’s acclaimed album of the same name — a fresh take on time-honored Gospel hymns, reimagined with a modern, soulful edge. With soaring vocals and moving arrangements, Smith offers a worship experience that honors tradition while speaking to a new generation of listeners.

A decade after winning The Voice, Smith calls this collection the most honest expression of who he is as both an artist and a believer. “I made this record for myself,” Smith says. “This time, the only concern was, ‘How would Jordan Smith sing this song?’ You can hear the freedom and joy in it.”

The People’s Hymnal DVD captures the spiritual power and emotional depth of the original studio album, now enhanced with an intimate visual performance that showcases Smith’s remarkable vocal range and moving storytelling. Fans can experience live renditions of gospel classics like “Oh Happy Day,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “His Eye Is On The Sparrow,” along with bonus tracks available exclusively on the DVD and TV special: “I’d Rather Have Jesus” and “It Is Well with My Soul.”

Co-produced by GRAMMY-winning songwriter and producer Tommy Sims and award-winning musician Colin Linden, the studio album reimagines beloved hymns with a fresh blend of gospel, soul, and pop. The result is a dynamic, uplifting collection that bridges the traditional and the contemporary — a bold step forward in Smith’s evolution as a vocalist and worship leader.
