FROM PARAMEDICS TO PEN: TURNING REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES INTO STORIES THAT INSPIRES.
Written by Praise Afolabi on 9th April 2025
Everyone has a story, including You!
We often think our stories have to be grand to inspire others. But sometimes it’s the quietness and unseen sacrifices and the faithful act of service that carries the power. This week on Arise with Eloho on Heartsong Live Radio Heartsong Live Radio, Tim Parson, Author and former Paramedic, shares how his heart for people and passion for storytelling impact people, leaving a lasting impression.
From sitting quietly with grieving families to writing children’s books inspired by real-life heroes, he has learned firsthand how real-life experience, especially the tough ones, can be transformed into stories that speak to both hearts and minds.
LESSONS FROM THE AMBULANCE
Tim started out as a frontline ambulance chapline paramedic, often facing life and death situations. “There were times I arrived at scenes not knowing what to expect,” he shared. “But what I remember most are the people, their pain, their courage, and the moments of hope that surfaced even in tragedy.”
He was trained at Kent Workplace mission and completed a two year placement at a dementia home. One story that stayed with him involved sitting with a grieving family after losing their loved one and that gentle, human connection would later inform his writing and his ministry.
PAIN MEETS PURPOSE: FINDING STRENGTH THROUGH STRUGGLES
After stepping away from the frontlines he transitioned into chaplaincy. Though he stepped down in 2021 due to personal reasons, including the death of his father and managing Crohn’s disease.
“I remember asking God, ‘What is there for me now?’” Tim shared. “I’ve come to believe that God uses suffering — not as punishment, but as preparation. My faith has been stretched, but it’s grown. And without God, the weight of everything would have crushed me.”
Even in that wilderness that tested his faith, he found hope and support from the church. Tim continues to offer support to the paramics and the public through tough times, using his experience to minister with empathy and compassion.
HOW AND WHY PARAMEDICS CHRIS WAS BORN
Tim had a desire to help children understand emergencies, empathetic and emotions. The birth of “The Paramedics Chris Series” was inspired by real life situations, characters like Paramedics Chris help kids learn about bravery, kindness and facing challenges.
He has written other titles; ”A Helping hand”, inspired by a Christmas Day call to a grieving man. “Bully”, addresses bullying, dedicated to his father. During COVID, he was inspired to write “The Runaway Chicken”. All series blend moral lessons and humor.
“My goal,” Tim explains, “is to help children feel safe, seen and empowered.”
BEYOND THE BOOKS: TIM’S PLANS FOR THE FUTURE
Birth from years of watching people go through trauma and being discharged without real support, Tim hopes to establish a mental health retreat center. He hopes to bridge the gap and create a safe space for healing.
