Unite for Education Responds to Scottish Parliament Vote on Assisted Suicide Bill

Written by on 20th March 2026

Unite for Education acknowledges a significant moment in Scotland’s public life as the Scottish Parliament voted against the Assisted Suicide Bill. Our founder, Niel, was present at Holyrood throughout the day, joining many others in peaceful demonstration, prayer, and witness as MSPs debated and ultimately rejected the proposal.

The atmosphere in Parliament was long, heavy, and deeply emotional. Yet throughout the day, one truth remained clear, life stood, faith stood, and Scotland stood. As the vote concluded, a wave of relief and gratitude swept across those gathered. For many, this was not simply a political outcome but a moral victory, one that affirms the dignity and value of every human life.

“Scotland has said NO to assisted suicide. Life has spoken louder. Hope has risen higher,” said Niel. “We prayed, we persevered, and we continue to give  thanks to God for this powerful victory.”

Unite for Education recognises that this moment is not the end of the journey. The cultural conversation around life, dignity, and human worth continues. But we pause to honour every voice, every prayer, every letter written to MSPs, and every person who refused to sit down or stay silent. Standing really is winning, and this outcome demonstrates that perseverance matters.

This moment also highlights why our work in education is so vital. Across Scotland, children and young people are increasingly exposed to narratives that normalise assisted suicide and abortion, sometimes in classrooms, sometimes online, and sometimes even at home. When truth is not taught, confusion fills the gap. When love is not modelled, fear takes its place. When compassion is distorted, young minds are left vulnerable.

This is why Unite for Education remains committed to promoting teaching that forms children in wisdom, clarity, and moral courage. We believe every child deserves to be raised in truth, strengthened by values that honour life, uphold dignity, and bless society.

We want to see a generation equipped to bring goodness into every sphere of influence:

Education

And every corner of public life

A culture that honours life begins with children who are taught to value it.

As we celebrate this outcome, we also look ahead with renewed conviction. We continue to pray for Scotland, for the United Kingdom, and for leaders across our nation. We pray that truth rises, hope awakens, and healing flows across our land.

There is no condemnation and no hatred in our stance, only truth, courage, compassion, and conviction. We choose love. Real love. The kind that protects, builds, and transforms.

“We give thanks to God for this outcome,” Niel added. “But we know this is not the end. The call to protect life, uphold truth, and defend the vulnerable continues. And we will keep standing. Grateful, awake, unshaken, and moving forward with joy.”

As we continue this journey, Unite for Education remains committed to shaping a Scotland where truth is not silenced, Education is good, where life is honoured, and where hope is restored.

“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua: 1 vs 9.
