Jen Hatmaker is a well-known name within the Christian community, authoring books like For the Love and Of Mess and Moxie and more recently Fierce, Free, and Full of Fire. She’s also the host of TV show ‘Your Big Family Renovation’ on HGTV
In recent years though, she’s been more known for her endorsement of same-sex marriage. She made headlines again recently, this time for her lengthy social media post last Sunday, announcing her divorce from Brandon Hatmaker. They had been married since 1993 and have 5 children together
According to an article by investigative journalist Julie Roys, court records indicate that Hatmaker, 46, filed for divorce from her husband, Brandon, on August 21 – the filing does not specify a reason for the split.
The sudden news seems to throw more light on her post from several weeks prior where she said her family was navigating a “crisis” and asked for prayers.
In the statement posted on Instagram on Sunday which leads with an image that simply says ‘Pray For Us’, she stated: “I don’t know how to say this, and I still cannot believe I am even saying it, but Brandon and I are getting divorced.”
“Although the details are ours alone, this was completely unexpected, and I remain stunned as we speak. I am shocked, grief-stricken, and broken-hearted” she stated
Acknowledging the prayers of her audience and asking they respect her and her family’s privacy, she stated: ” We have felt your prayers these last few weeks. We have experienced your mercy. Thank you for being good to us. Know that we are deeply surrounded by love and have not been alone a single second in two months. Please help protect us and keep us safe as we try to heal and rebuild.
The For The Love podcast host’s affirmation of same-sex marriage led to LifeWay Christian Resources and other Christian booksellers removing her books from their shelves.
Back in June, she released a special edition of her podcast featuring her daughter who identifies as a lesbian: ” “I wouldn’t change one ounce of who she is. Not a molecule. Not a moment. The only thing I would change in our story, is I wish I could go back and shake myself to life sooner — well, well, well, before,” she said
