Why Pastor Chinelo Dilimono Believes Mercy Still Calls Your Name

Written by on 9th September 2025

There are moments in life when silence feels heavy, when prayers seem buried, and when shame whispers that your story is over. Yet even in those moments, God’s mercy calls your name. That is the message behind Mercy Knows My Name, the powerful new single from Pastor Chinelo Dilimono, known to many as Pastor Chi.

Her song is more than music; it is a testimony. And through it, Pastor Chi reminds us that no matter where we find ourselves at the bottom of the sea like Jonah, in the wilderness of waiting, or in the quiet ache of unanswered questions mercy never forgets us.

The God Who Hears in the Depths

The song was born out of a simple but profound scripture. Reading about Jonah, Pastor Chi was struck by one line: “From the belly of the fish, Jonah prayed, and the Lord heard him.”

“Jonah was at the very bottom,” she reflects. “No one could hear him. But mercy did. God’s mercy found him where no man could reach.”

That same mercy, she insists, is still reaching for us today. It is the mercy that covers our mistakes, the mercy that rewrites our stories, the mercy that refuses to let go of us even when we feel lost.

Walking with God, Not Just Working for Him

One of the deepest lessons Pastor Chi shares is this: your walk with God must never be lost to your work for Him.

“Our work can change,” she explains. “One season you may be singing on stage, another season you may be teaching, writing, or pastoring. But your walk must remain steady. That is where consistency lies.”

Her words are a reminder to everyone struggling with comparison or expectation. Ministry is not about keeping up appearances. It is about staying aligned with God, even when others don’t understand your season.

When Seasons Change

For a time, some people assumed Pastor Chi had stopped singing. Their words stung: “That woman doesn’t sing anymore.”

But she knew the truth. Worship was still her call whether expressed on stage or not. “The seasons may change, but the calling remains,” she says firmly.

It is the same for every believer. The expression of our gifts may shift, but God’s hand on our lives never lifts. His calling remains sure.

A Testimony of Mercy in Her Own House

What makes Mercy Knows My Name even more powerful is the story behind its production. The song was brought to life by her son, Jenga, who produced the entire track. But Jenga is more than just her producer. He is a living testimony of mercy.

Pastor Chi recounts the day doctors told her she could not have children, urging her to clear her womb. “On the very day I was supposed to go,” she says, “the Holy Spirit whispered to me, do a pregnancy test. I obeyed. The result was positive. If I had not listened, I would have lost the very child God had given me.”

That child is now a man, producing her music. “Every time I look at Jenga,” she says, “I see mercy. It is no coincidence that the first song he has produced for me is Mercy Knows My Name. His very life sings that truth.”

Mercy for You, Too

Perhaps you, like Jonah, feel buried. Perhaps the shame of yesterday makes you doubt today. Pastor Chi has a word for you:

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases. His mercies are new every morning even this morning. God does not judge you by yesterday’s failures. Today is a new slate. Lift up your heart and let Him breathe fresh oil upon you.”

Her song is not just an anthem; it is an invitation. Mercy knows your name. Mercy has not forgotten you. Mercy is still calling.

Final Encouragement

In every chapter of her life from waiting years to record a song, to navigating misunderstood seasons, to experiencing a miraculous birth Pastor Chi has found one constant: mercy never fails.

And that same mercy is reaching out to you. Wherever you are reading this, let these words settle in your spirit: His mercy still knows your name.
