Written by on 5th October 2021

Grammy award winner Kirk Franklin, the Christian singer and recently re-recorded one of his singles to feature a choir of children from across the world.

On Friday, 24th September, Franklin announced that he had partnered with the Christian nonprofit organisation Compassion International to re-release his 1998 single “Lean on Me.” However, a crucial part of the song now includes a virtual choir of 120 youth from 25 different countries.

The choir has the children singing “You don’t have to worry / Here’s my shoulder, you can lean on me,” and features the children singing “Don’t Worry” in their native tongues.

Franklin told Religion News Service that he recorded this single to be a musical and personal role model for the children in these communities. “You have hundreds of kids that are living in marginalised situations, that are living in high levels of poverty, that this song is giving them an opportunity to have a voice,” he stated. “You should have seen the tears coming from these kids’ eyes, of just hearing how I was adopted and how I was abandoned and how my mother and father did not raise me. And for these kids to go, man, that’s my story and look at how God changed your life.”

Any purchases or streams of this single will go directly to Compassion.
