A Call to Awaken: Standing Up for Children, Our Schools, and the Foundations of Our Nation as Scottish Greens want kids to be taught about multi-partner relationships in school
Written by Sunny Unachi on 28th October 2026
Scotland is at a pivotal crossroad. Recent proposals emerging from political conferences, including motions brought forward to the Scottish Greens annual conference in Inverness call for teaching school children that multi partner relationships and polyamory are “no better or worse” than a traditional couple or lifelong marriage.
Proposals to alter Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) curricula to explicitly promote non-traditional relationship structures, such as “throuples” and multi partner households, represent a direct departure from common sense and the foundational Christian heritage upon which our society and educational institutions were built.
At Unite for Education, we refuse to stand by silently while the sacred foundations of family, marriage, and childhood education are dismantled in the name of political ideology by a really serious dangerous party.
The debate that took place at the Scottish Green conference should be a wake up call for parents, educators, churches, and communities across Scotland.
These proposals are calling for legal recognition of polyamorous relationships and for relationship education to present different relationship structures without treating traditional monogamous relationships as inherently preferable, this raises serious questions about the future direction of education, family life, and the values being promoted to the next generation.
We believe children need stability, clarity, and strong foundations. We believe schools should focus on academic excellence, character development, respect for others, and preparing young people for life. We are deeply concerned by efforts to normalise and promote relationship models that many families, faith communities, and ordinary Scots do not believe serve as a healthy foundation for society.
As our nation moves further away from its Christian heritage, we should not be surprised to see increasing attempts to redefine family, relationships, and long held social norms. For generations, marriage and family have been recognised as foundational building blocks of society. This is about more than one conference motion.
It is about the direction of Scotland. This debate is about the future direction of Scotland, the role of parents in shaping their children’s values, and whether education will strengthen or weaken the institutions that have long underpinned our society.
Too many people assume that these debates do not affect them. Yet ideas discussed at political conferences often shape future policy discussions, legislation, and educational frameworks. That is why we got to pay attention and work together and stand.
What is at stake?
- The Integrity of the Classroom: Schools exist to teach core academic disciplines, moral grounding, and basic social respect. Rewriting relationship education to normalise polyamory in primary and secondary schools oversteps the role of education and undermines the primary right of parents to guide their children’s moral development.
- The Erosion of Our Christian Heritage: Our nation’s laws, institutions, and community strengths were built on foundational Christian principles, including the sanctity of marriage between a husband and a wife. As these foundations are abandoned, we witness the steady breakdown of the family unit, which remains the bedrock of a stable society.
- Political Disconnect: While Scottish families face rising costs of living, struggling NHS services, and falling educational standards, politicians and activists are prioritising fringe ideological debates that erode the traditional family model.
Silence in this hour is consent. When we remain in our own bubbles, we allow extreme policies to creep unnoticed into classroom curricula, government policy, and public institutions. Every vote for these parties, every sticker on a door, and every unchallenged policy proposal moves our nation further away from truth and stability.
We must awaken to what is being introduced into children’s learning environments. Fear and apathy can no longer dictate our response.
Unite for Education will not remain silent. We are committed to:
- Equipping Parents and Citizens: Providing clear, transparent information about what is being proposed in Holyrood and taught in local classrooms.
- Challenging Public Leaders: Bringing these issues directly into the public square, the media, and the halls of the Scottish Parliament to demand accountability from political parties.
- Defending Truth and Tradition: Standing unashamedly for the protection of our children, the preservation of our Christian heritage, and the restoration of excellence and common sense in Scottish education.
We call upon parents, grandparents, teachers, church leaders, and citizens across Scotland to open their eyes, speak out, and take a stand, to become informed, engaged, and active in the public square. We need people who are willing to respectfully but boldly defend the importance of family, faith, parental rights, and educational standards.
We need people who will stand for truth, speak with conviction. Together, we can stop the destruction of our nation’s educational foundations and ensure a grounded, moral, and stable future for the next generation.
At Unite for Education, we remain committed to equipping, informing, and inspiring people to understand the challenges facing education and society today. We will continue to raise awareness, encourage discussion, engage with decision makers, and advocate for an education system that strengthens rather than weakens the foundations upon which our nation has been built.
The future of Scotland will not be decided by those who remain silent. It will be shaped by those who are willing to stand, speak, and act.
