Written by on 9th October 2020

Norma Pimentel, a US-based Catholic nun has been included in this year´s Time 100 Most Influential People. Time 100 is an annual list of the most influential people in the world.

She was added under the ‘Icon’ section

This year, Pimentel has been included for her work on the US-Mexico border in south Texas where along with her charity provides much-needed housing to those who have been released from immigration custody

She is the executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Negro Grande Valley- a group of organisations that provides shelter and food to those crossing the border.

According to Time magazine, Pimentel´s charity has housed and assisted well over 100,000 people.

She celebrated her nomination in a recent Facebook post, saying it was an “honour” to be selected and adding that she believes “the recognition comes from the work we do here on the border, that of restoring human dignity to those in need.”

She also expressed her hope that the Time nomination would bring more “understanding” to the immigration issue and allow people to “see more clearly what we can each do to respect all human life, especially the most vulnerable.”

Also included in this year’s list are US President Donald Trump, Vice President nominee Kamala Harris, actors Gabrielle Union and Britain’s own Michaela Coel, and author Tomi Adeyemi
