Don’t worry—I am with you. Don’t be afraid—I am your God.
I will make you strong and help you.  I will support you with my right hand that brings victory
.Is. 41:10ERV

The primary idea behind the Hebrew word used for help in our scripture today is to support, surround hence defend.

Ever since God made the promise to Abraham and his descendants to bless all who blessed and curse all who cursed them, God, without fail reiterated His allegiance to protecting Israel. Psalm 125 compares Him to the mountains that surround Jerusalem.

I used to live in a little town on the outskirts of Calgary in Alberta, Canada and I woke up daily to the majesty of the Rocky Mountains outside my window. Drawing my blinds each morning, I view that unswerving, mountain, like a dependable ally, I knew it would always be there and my heart would go out to God. It inspired worship, a remembrance of God’s faithfulness to always be there for His own. That mountain connotes strength and resilience.

Remember the wall of Jericho? Archaeological report has it that it was at least thirteen feet yet, by the wisdom of God, it came down triumphantly. The mountains around Jerusalem, however! The Samarian Hills, a whopping 2,300 to 3,000ft. Who wouldn’t feel safe surrounded by suchGargantuan force. The Bible calls our God a Bulwark, a Mighty Fortress. His Name is the Strong Tower into which we run and are safe.

The Right Hand of God

To cap it, our God promises to support us with His right Hand. The right Hand of God represents His all-encompassing power. Jesus, the One who won the victory through His sacrifice sits at the right Hand of the Father. We have also been invited to the right Hand of the Father. All in all, we are secure in the love of the Father. Literally, we are in safe Hands.

Friend, who’s holding you?
