Lead Vocalist and guitarist Jon Steingard for the band Hawk Nelson, recently posted on social media that after years of contemplation he is finding now that he no longer believes in God.

In his Instagram post, Steingard states that his revocation of Christianity was not an overnight decision as he had been grappling with elements of his faith for several years.

He wrote: “The process of getting to that sentence has been several years in the making. It didn’t happen overnight or all of a sudden. It’s been more like pulling on the threads of a sweater, and one day discovering that there was no more sweater left.”

“I simply can no longer avoid it.” He said. “Processing this quietly felt right when I simply had doubts. But once they solidified into a genuine point of view, it began to feel dishonest not to talk about it.”

The reaction to Steingard’s post by fans and fellow colleagues in the Christian music industry has been one of acceptance Amongst those who reacted to this post were some prominent artistes in Christian music like Jeremy Camp, Jordan Feliz, Love and the Outcome and Sam Tinnesz (songwriter and producer For King and Country, Jordan Feliz)

Jeremy Camp wrote: “Love you bro. Always will,”

“I am always here for you, no matter what.” wrote Jordan Feliz

Sam Tinnesz wrote: “You’ve always been one of the good ones and this doesn’t change that for me. Love you and always here for you”

Hawk Nelson band members (Daniel, Micah and David) responded to Steingard’s shocking revelation in a Facebook post saying: “Our mission as Hawk Nelson has always been to inspire and encourage all people with the truth that God is FOR them and not against them. In that message’s most simple and purest form, that THEY matter.”

“So now we turn that truth towards one of our own. That God is still FOR Jon & he still matters. Why? Because that truth doesn’t change just because we question it.”
