Originally from Nigeria, and now living in the UK, Abigail Crown is releasing her debut album called “Incomprehensible”. The idea behind the album is to look at the sides of God that Abigail has seen and experienced, but additionally, the knowledge that He is beyond our comprehension.

This Gospel album opens with a quick spoken intro before building into “Unfailing Love”. This album features Abigail’s rich vocals, which stand strong in the forefront of each track. Additionally, she has a small group of backing singers who are very talented, bringing out and emphasising the movement of the music brilliantly.

Abigail says that some of her inspirations are people like Don Moen and Ron Kenoly those inspirations are echoed in her style. The album is a studio recording, but it has that live Gospel concert feel, with the backing singers adding depth, worship calls and even, at times, a quieter handclap track along with the percussion. From the very first track of the album, make this a welcoming event to get involved with, rather than a performance just to be admired! On the first listen the interaction may be minimised to a bit of a dance, but the lyrics are mostly simple to follow and easy to actually join in with after a few times through.

These songs consider different aspects of God. There is reassurance of God’s love toward us in “Unfailing Love” and having a plan for us in “In Your Will”. “Incomprehensible”, the title track, is about the greatness of God that is so much more than we will ever understand. The last track on the album also looks at the sovereignty of God in “Be Thou Exalted”. These facets of who God is are not descriptive ‘teaching’ tracks, but instead they praise Him because of those qualities.

“So Grateful” and the “Praise Medley” are the beginning of the responses to these revelations. This is where Abigail expertly mixes her African culture with the British, dipping in and out of English. It would be easy to lose some of the audience in this section, but she expertly balances it so you can follow along and, even if you do not know the words, the beats are infectious!

Just because this is a Gospel album does not mean that there cannot be any surprises! “Day of Decision” introduces a brilliant Afro-Carribean style that is executed very well.  This gives a different feel and automatically makes you refocus your attention on what is definitely the ‘altar call’ for this album.

Despite the spontaneous feel of some of the songs, they never feel like they are out of her control. On this album, she shows herself as a worship leader with amazing God given authority. If you are looking for a worship album that considers the different aspects of God, as well as raising praise to the Almighty, then this should be at the top of your list!
