According to a BBC news report a large grass fire broke out near the summit of Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh. This fire came as fire chiefs issued a wildfire warning following a spate of fires across Scotland in recent days. The alarm was raised at around 1.40pm on Sunday that grass had caught alight near the summit of the landmark. It is said that one person was injured and was taken into the care of paramedics with a suspected leg injury. Six appliances and around 30 crew members were called to the scene, with firefighters having to use water backpacks to tackle the flames. Large plumes of smoke could be seen rising above the peak.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 1.40pm on Sunday, May 20 to reports of a large area of grass on fire near Arthur’s Seat, Edinburgh. “Operations Control mobilised six fire engines to the scene and firefighters are working to contain and extinguish the flames. “One casualty, suffering from a suspected leg injury, was assisted to a place of safety before they were transferred into the care of paramedics. “Crews currently remain on the scene.” A fire service spokeswoman added crews were likely to remain at the landmark through the night to make sure the blaze does not spread.

The blaze comes after firefighters warned on Saturday for members of the public to beware of such risks. Chairman of the Scottish Wildfire Forum Bruce Farquharson called for people to heed safety advice and “enjoy the weather responsibly”.
