Preparations underway for Britain’s National Day of Prayer for Schools | September 9

Written by on 8th September 2026

On Wednesday, September 9, Christians all over Britain are being asked to participate in the National Day of Prayer for Schools.

The organizers of the event are inviting churches, families, and Christians to pray especially for schools, pupils, teachers, parents, and communities.

Three prayer sessions will be held online on that day at 7am, 12 noon, and 7pm by the Message Trust.

It is especially apt at this time when schools start a new academic year.

For Christians, the beginning of the school year symbolizes far more than changes to timetables and classrooms; it provides an opportunity for prayer for a whole generation of kids and teenagers who are struggling to find their place in education, amongst friends, in a confusing and complex world.

But the idea serves to remind us of another vital change in the way churches can relate to their communities.

It is not just a matter of praying in the church building.

Churches can pray for the school down the road, for the teachers in their local communities, for families in their neighborhoods, and for young people who will never darken the church door.

This makes the National Day of Prayer for Schools into something far more than one-day event each year; it makes it a reminder to churches of their place as praying communities in the communities that they inhabit.
