5 Prayers for Your Marriage or Future Marriage
Written by Sunny Unachi on 14th August 2026
Finding the right spouse isn’t the whole story; marriage is about becoming the right partner and building a spiritual and godly relationship and letting Him lead you.
No matter if you are already married, about to get married, or looking forward to having God give you a future husband or wife, prayer can help you cultivate your marriage based on faith, wisdom, love, and purpose.
Here are 5 prayers for marriage and your future marriage.
1. Prayer for a God-Centered Marriage
Father, may my marriage always revolve around You. Teach us how to love, serve, forgive and grow in accordance with Your word. May our home be one full of peace, wisdom, patience and true love. Amen.
“Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1
Your Christian marriage starts with God. Pray that your marriage be built on faith and not merely on emotions.
2. Prayer for Your Future Husband/Wife
Lord, wherever my future husband/wife is, prepare us both for the marriage You want. Mold us into people of character and faith who love with wisdom and patience. Do not allow me to hurry You. Amen.
“He makes all things beautiful in His time.” — Ecclesiastes 3:11
As you await your marriage, do not just pray about finding the right one. Also pray about being the right one.
3. Prayer for Love, Understanding & Communication
Father, teach us to communicate with kindness and to listen with understanding. May we resolve our differences without tearing each other down. May our love be patient, humble, merciful, and genuine. Amen.
“Love is patient; love is kind.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4
Good communication is crucial in a good marriage. Pray that you may have the grace to say the truth without malice and hear the truth without getting defensive.
4. Prayer of Protection for Your Marriage
Lord, protect my marriage from all who would tear us apart. Protect my heart from temptation, bitterness, envy, pride, and forgiveness. Help me to discern anything that might destroy peace and unity in our home. Amen.
“For a cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:12
Marriage takes protection spiritually, emotionally, and intentionally. Pray over your marriage often, not just during difficult times.
5. Prayer for God’s Will and Timing
Lord, help me in my decision making regarding marriage. If I am already married, keep guiding me through this process. If I am still waiting, grant me wisdom and patience. Do not allow me to enter into any relationship that does not fulfill Your plan for my life. Let Your will triumph over mine. Amen.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5
Sometimes, the best response to your marriage prayers is, “wait”.
A Final Prayer for Your Marriage
Marriage is a process which needs grace, patience, sacrifice, friendship and faith. No matter whether you pray for a good marriage, a godly partner, marriage in the future, or knowledge on how to relate to people, lay your aspirations in front of God.
Pray. Prepare. Trust His timing.
But one thing is important to know: your mission is not only to get married, but to create a godly marriage.
