Devotional: The Power of Prayer

Written by on 3rd June 2026

James 5:16b (NKJV)
“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

Prayer is one of the greatest gifts God has given His children. Through prayer, we have direct access to the Creator of heaven and earth. It is not merely a religious activity but a relationship—a conversation between a loving Father and His children.

Jesus Himself demonstrated the importance of prayer. He prayed before major decisions, during times of pressure, and in moments of deep sorrow. If the Son of God depended on prayer, how much more should we?

Prayer changes us before it changes our circumstances. As we spend time in God’s presence, our hearts become aligned with His will. We receive strength for challenges, wisdom for decisions, and peace for uncertainties. Prayer reminds us that we are not fighting life’s battles alone.

Sometimes answers come immediately. At other times, God asks us to wait. Yet every prayer offered in faith is heard by Him. No sincere cry escapes His attention. Whether your prayer is one of thanksgiving, repentance, worship, or petition, God welcomes it.

Today, make prayer your first response rather than your last resort. Bring every concern before God and trust Him to work according to His perfect wisdom.

Prayer
Father, thank You for the privilege of coming into Your presence at any time. Thank You that I do not have to carry my burdens alone because You invite me to cast all my cares upon You.

Teach me to develop a deeper and more consistent prayer life. Help me to seek You daily and not only when I need something. Give me the discipline to spend time with You and the sensitivity to hear Your voice.

Lord, I bring every concern, fear, and desire before You today. Strengthen me where I am weak, guide me where I am uncertain, and comfort me where I am hurting. Let my heart grow in faith as I learn to trust Your answers and Your timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
