HSL Devotional: BEGIN WITH THANKS | September 1, 2026
Written by Sunny Unachi on 1st September 2026
Scripture: Psalm 100:4–5; 1 Thessalonians 5:18
There is something powerful about beginning with gratitude. Before asking God for another blessing, take a moment to acknowledge the blessings already present in your life.
The Psalmist encourages us to enter God’s presence with thanksgiving. This reminds us that gratitude is not merely a response to receiving something we wanted. It is an attitude that recognizes who God is and remembers His faithfulness.
Sometimes we become so focused on the next prayer request that we forget yesterday’s answered prayer. We think about what we still need and overlook how far God has already brought us.
Perhaps September has arrived with unanswered questions. Maybe you are trusting God for something significant. Even then, you can begin with thanksgiving. You can thank Him for life, for grace, for another opportunity, for protection, for family, for friendships and, most importantly, for salvation through Christ.
Reflection: What are five things you can sincerely thank God for today?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for bringing me into another month. Open my eyes to Your goodness and help me recognize the blessings I often overlook. Give me a heart that chooses gratitude even when life is not perfect. May thanksgiving become my daily response to Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
