HSL Devotional: GRATITUDE CHANGES YOUR PERSPECTIVE | September 4, 2026

Scripture: Philippians 4:6–7; Psalm 34:1
What we repeatedly focus on can shape the way we experience life.
If we constantly focus on problems, fear can become louder than faith. If we focus only on what we lack, dissatisfaction can overshadow the blessings already surrounding us. Gratitude gives us another perspective.
Paul teaches believers to bring their requests before God with thanksgiving. Notice that prayer and gratitude appear together. We can ask God for what we need while still remembering what He has already done.
This is not about forcing ourselves to be positive. It is about deliberately choosing to see life through the lens of God’s faithfulness.
There may be something you are asking God to change today. Bring it to Him. But after making your request, pause and remember His goodness.
Sometimes the greatest change begins not when our circumstances change, but when our perspective does.
Reflection: What situation has been consuming your attention lately? How can gratitude help you see it differently?
Prayer:
Lord, change the way I see my circumstances. When anxiety becomes louder than faith, remind me of Your goodness. Teach me to bring my requests to You with thanksgiving and to trust You with the outcome. Amen.
