HSL Devotional: PRAYER IS RELATIONSHIP | September 6, 2026

Scripture: Jeremiah 33:3; Matthew 6:6
Prayer is more than presenting a list of requests to God. At its heart, prayer is relationship.
When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He was not giving them a religious performance. He was showing them how to approach the Father with intimacy, dependence and trust.
Sometimes we only become serious about prayer when there is a crisis. We pray when the doctor gives us difficult news, when finances become uncertain or when we desperately need a door to open. But God desires more than emergency conversations.
He wants us to know Him. Prayer gives us space to speak honestly with God, but it also creates room to listen, reflect and surrender.
You do not need sophisticated language to pray. God is not impressed by vocabulary. He is interested in a sincere heart.
Tell Him what you are afraid of. Tell Him what you are hoping for. Thank Him. Ask for wisdom. Confess your failures. Sit quietly before Him.
Reflection: Is your prayer life mostly about asking God for things, or are you intentionally building a relationship with Him?
Prayer:
Father, draw me closer to You. Teach me to see prayer as a relationship rather than a routine. Help me speak honestly, listen carefully and trust You completely. May prayer become a natural part of my everyday life. Amen.
