HSL Devotional: PRAY WITHOUT CEASING | September 7

Written by on 7th September 2026

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18; Luke 18:1

When Scripture says, “Pray without ceasing,” it is not suggesting that we must spend every moment physically on our knees. It is describing a life that remains connected to God.

Prayer can become part of the rhythm of your day.

Pray before making an important decision. Pray when you receive good news. Pray when something disappoints you. Pray when someone hurts you. Pray when you are tempted. Pray when you are grateful.

A praying person learns to turn toward God rather than away from Him.

Persistent prayer also teaches us patience. Jesus told His disciples a parable about continuing to pray and not losing heart. Sometimes the answer comes quickly; sometimes the journey requires endurance.

Do not interpret a delayed answer as God’s absence.

Keep praying, trusting and bringing your heart before God.

Prayer may not always change the situation immediately, but it changes the person standing in the situation.

Reflection: What area of your life do you need to become more intentional about praying over?

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to pray consistently. Help me remember You throughout my day instead of only turning to You during emergencies. Strengthen my faith when answers seem delayed and keep me from giving up. Amen.
