HSL Devotional: WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO PRAY | September 8

Written by on 8th September 2026

Scripture: Romans 8:26–27

There are seasons when words fail. Sometimes grief is too deep. Sometimes disappointment is too complicated. Sometimes you are carrying so much internally that you cannot even explain what you feel.

Romans 8 reminds us that the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. What a comforting truth.

God does not require you to have perfect words before He listens. He knows your heart before you speak. He understands the tears you cannot explain and the burdens you cannot articulate.

There are moments when your prayer may simply be, “Lord, help me.”

That is enough to begin.

Prayer is not a performance. It is an expression of dependence.

When you cannot formulate a long prayer, sit quietly before God. Open your heart. Read Scripture. Cry if you need to. Whisper His name.

You are not failing spiritually because you do not know what to say.

Sometimes the most honest prayer is simply surrender.

Reflection: What burden have you struggled to put into words before God?

Prayer:
Holy Spirit, help me in my weakness. When I do not know what to say, interpret the cries of my heart. Help me trust that God understands me completely and that I am never alone in my struggles. Amen.
