A tragic incident at the Big Church Festival in West Sussex has left one person dead and several others injured, bringing an otherwise joyful Christian gathering to a devastating end.

A 41-year-old man from Eastbourne died after a large sign fell at the festival site near Steyning on Friday, August 28. At least six other people were injured and taken to hospital for treatment. Sussex Police confirmed that emergency services were called to the site at about 3:38pm.

The Big Church Festival, which organisers describe as the UK’s largest Christian festival, was scheduled to run from August 28 to 30. Following the incident, organisers brought the entire event to a close.
