Devotional — GUARD YOUR HEART | Sept 12
Written by Sunny Unachi on 12th September 2026
Scripture: Proverbs 4:23; Matthew 12:34
The Bible places great importance on the condition of our hearts.
Proverbs tells us to guard our hearts because the direction of our lives flows from them. What we continually allow into our hearts eventually influences our thoughts, attitudes, words and actions.
This is why spiritual discipline matters.
Not everything deserves access to your heart.
Some conversations leave you encouraged; others fill you with bitterness. Some content strengthens your faith; other content quietly weakens your convictions. Some relationships bring wisdom; others continually pull you away from God’s purposes.
Guarding your heart does not mean isolating yourself from the world. It means developing discernment about what you allow to shape you.
Ask yourself: What has been influencing me lately?
Your heart is valuable.
Do not allow every voice, trend, opinion or desire to become a guide for your life.
Let God’s Word have the loudest voice.
Reflection: What influence do you need to reduce or remove from your life?
Prayer:
Lord, help me guard my heart wisely. Give me discernment about the voices I listen to, the content I consume and the relationships I nurture. Let Your Word shape my heart more than the world around me. Amen.
