Devotional: HOLINESS IN YOUR WORDS | Sept 13

Written by on 13th September 2026

Scripture: Ephesians 4:29; Proverbs 18:21

Our words reveal something about what is happening inside us.

A person can sing worship songs on Sunday and still use words that wound people throughout the week. God cares about both our worship and our conversations.

Paul encourages believers to speak words that build others up and give grace to those who hear them.

This challenges us to become intentional about our speech.

Before speaking, ask yourself: Is this true? Is it necessary? Is it loving? Will these words help or unnecessarily hurt?

There are times when truth must be spoken, but truth does not require cruelty.

There are also moments when silence is wiser than responding in anger.

Your words can become instruments of healing. A simple encouragement can restore someone’s confidence. An apology can repair a relationship. A kind response can interrupt an argument.

Let holiness affect your mouth.

The way you speak to people is part of your witness.

Reflection: Is there someone who needs encouragement, an apology or a kind word from you today?

Prayer:
Father, take control of my words. Help me speak truth with love, correct with wisdom and encourage with sincerity. May my conversations reflect the grace You have shown me. Amen
